Hello folks,
My Bosch SGI46A5742 dishwasher has ceased functioning, and I’d like to fix the problem myself, so if anyone has a a repair guide or service manual for this appliance, or can provide some advice, I’d really be grateful. When I try to start a washing cycle, nothing happens: no lights, no sounds, and no water is flowing. It just quit mid-cycle yesterday. I’m looking for some guidance to resolve the issue. Please don't share the operating manual, I already have it and it’s not useful.
Thanks in advance for any assistance!

Welcome to the Dishwasher Repair Forum! I have experienced a similar problem with my Bosch SGI46A5742 dishwasher a few weeks ago, and I discovered a detailed service manual online. It includes step-by-step directions, wiring schematics, and troubleshooting tips. Here’s the link, I found it on a blog through reddit :

Hello, help required please I also have a Bosch SGI46A5742 dishwasher, and I got the repair guide shared above. Could someone clarify how to test the electrical supply and what parts to inspect initially? I’m a bit overwhelmed by the electrical schematics. Any suggestions would be great!

Start by checking the basics: 1. Power Supply: Use a multimeter to test the outlet and the terminal block where the power cord connects to the dishwasher. You should see around 120V (or 240V, depending on your model). 2. Door Switch: This is a common failure point. If the door isn’t fully closed or the switch is faulty, the dishwasher won’t start. Test the switch for continuity with a multimeter. 3. Thermal Fuse: If the dishwasher overheated, the thermal fuse might be blown. Check it for continuity as well.

Hi, I’m experiencing trouble with my appliance too. I checked the power supply, and the outlet, evrything is working, but there’s no power at the terminal block. According to the schematic in the guide, I expect to have some voltage there, correct? How do I check the mainboard? Is my dishwasher completely dead? The fuses seem fine, I tested it with a multimeter. Any suggestions? 🤔

I believe my dishwasher has an electrical issue because it isn't starting. I’m not very experienced with fixing things, but I’m willing to give it a shot. I have a current tester and some simple tools. Can anyone guide me on where to start? I’ve heard the control board, motor, or door mechanism could be the problem. Any advice would be helpful, can provide model number if needed!

Avoid rushing into replacing parts right away. Depending on the issue, the approach to troubleshooting issues may vary. Sometimes, devices are recalled, and you can simply let the manufacturer handle everything. Does your dishwasher have problems with the screen, indicators, or makes sounds? Start with the fundamentals by checking the electrical connection, latch, and mainboard. It’s important to move step by step instead of hastily swapping parts like the mainboard or pump. First, check if the dishwasher is powered on. It’s as easy as that. Also, check the door switch and fuse. If you’re a complete beginner in appliance repair, it might be safer to call a repair shop to prevent causing more damage, even if it costs a bit more. They can quickly identify the problem and identify the broken part. Then, it’s up to you whether you decide to fix it yourself. (A piece of advice: always unplug the dishwasher prior to working on it).

I think I damaged my appliance thermal resistance while trying to swap the water valve. Now it doesn’t heat at all while running. Is it likely I caused more issues? Something’s not right. I grabbed the Bosch SGI46A5742 maintenance guide guide hopefully it’ll help me figure out what went wrong. Hoping for the best...

Here’s my checklist for diagnosing a faulty dishwasher: Power Supply: Verify the dishwasher is getting power. Check the socket and terminal block as well. Door Switch: Test for continuity. A broken switch can prevent the dishwasher from working. Fuse: Inspect if it’s damaged. Replace it if necessary. Mainboard: Examine for obvious damage or loose connections. Motor and Pump: Check for proper operation and confirm they’re working properly.
