Hi my good fellows,
My Bosch SMI68M05EP21 dishwasher has stopped working, and I’d like to diagnose the issue myself, so if anyone has a a repair guide or service manual for this unit, or can guide me, I’d really be grateful. When I try to start a cycle, nothing happens: no lights, no sounds, no water flow. It just died mid-cycle yesterday. I’m looking for some support to troubleshoot it. Please don't share the user manual, I already have it and it’s not informative.
Thanks in advance for any advice!

Welcome to the Dishwasher Repair Forum! I have had a comparable issue with my Bosch SMI68M05EP21 dishwasher a few weeks ago, and I found a comprehensive service guide online. It includes detailed instructions, electrical diagrams, and troubleshooting hints. Here’s the link, I found it on a blog thanks to reddit :

Hi, help needed please I too have a Bosch SMI68M05EP21 dishwasher, and I got the repair manual mentioned above. Could someone explain how to check the electrical supply and what components to inspect initially? I’m a bit overwhelmed by the electrical diagrams. Any suggestions would be appreciated!

Start by checking the basics: 1. Power Supply: Use a multimeter to test the outlet and the terminal block where the power cord connects to the dishwasher. You should see around 120V (or 240V, depending on your model). 2. Door Switch: This is a common failure point. If the door isn’t fully closed or the switch is faulty, the dishwasher won’t start. Test the switch for continuity with a multimeter. 3. Thermal Fuse: If the dishwasher overheated, the thermal fuse might be blown. Check it for continuity as well.

Hi, I’m experiencing trouble with my dishwasher too. I checked the electrical supply, and the socket, evrything is fine, but there’s no power at the terminal block. According to the wiring diagram in the book, I should have some voltage there, right? How do I check the mainboard? Is my dishwasher completely dead? The fuse seem fine, I tested it with a voltage meter. Any ideas? 🤔

I believe my appliance has an electrical issue because it isn't starting. I’m not very tech savvy with repairs, but I’m willing to give it a shot. I have a multimeter and some basic equipment. Can someone help me on where to begin? I’ve heard the control board, motor, or door switch could be the problem. Any suggestions would be appreciated, can provide model number if needed!

Don’t Rush into changing parts right away. Depending on the issue, the approach to diagnosing issues may vary. Sometimes, devices are recalled, and you can simply allow the manufacturer handle the repair. Does your appliance have issues with the display, lights, or makes noises? Start with the fundamentals by checking the electrical connection, latch, and control board. It’s important to proceed step by step instead of hastily swapping parts like the mainboard or pump. First, verify if the dishwasher is powered on. It’s as simple as that. Also, inspect the door switch and fuse. If you’re a complete beginner in dishwasher repair, it might be better to call a service center to avoid causing more issues, even if it costs a little extra. They can easily diagnose the problem and find the faulty part. Then, it’s your choice whether you decide to replace it yourself. (A tip: always disconnect the dishwasher before working on it).

I think I damaged my appliance thermal resistance while trying to swap the water inlet valve. Now it doesn’t warm up at all while running. Is it possible I caused more damage? Something’s not right. I grabbed the Bosch SMI68M05EP21 maintenance guide guide hopefully it’ll help me determine what went wrong. Fingers crossed...

This is my preferred checklist for troubleshooting a faulty dishwasher: Power Supply: Check the dishwasher is getting power. Test the socket and connection point as well. Latch: Test for continuity. A broken switch can prevent the dishwasher from starting. Fuse: Inspect if it’s damaged. Replace it if needed. Mainboard: Inspect for obvious damage or disconnected connections. Pump and Motor: Test for continuity and ensure they’re working properly.
