Hi folks, My Bosch SMU86M85DE38 dishwasher has ceased functioning, and I’d like to fix the problem myself, so if anyone has a a repair guide or service manual for this unit, or can guide me, I’d really value it. When I try to start a wash, nothing happens: no lights, no water flow, and no sounds. It just quit mid-cycle yesterday. I’m looking for some assistance to resolve the issue. Please don't share the user manual, I already have it and it’s not helpful. Thanks in advance for your help!

I had a similar problem with my Bosch SMU86M85DE38 dishwasher a few weeks ago, and I discovered a detailed service manual on the internet. It features step-by-step instructions, electrical schematics, and diagnostic tips. Here’s the link, I discovered it on a blog on reddit :
Hi, help needed please I also have a Bosch SMU86M85DE38 dishwasher, and I downloaded the service manual shared above. Could anyone clarify how to test the power supply and what components to test initially? I’m a bit overwhelmed by the wiring diagrams. Any advice would be great!
Start by checking the basics:
1. Power Supply: Use a multimeter to test the outlet and the terminal block where the power cord connects to the dishwasher. You should see around 120V (or 240V, depending on your model).
2. Door Switch: This is a common failure point. If the door isn’t fully closed or the switch is faulty, the dishwasher won’t start. Test the switch for continuity with a multimeter.
3. Thermal Fuse: If the dishwasher overheated, the thermal fuse might be blown. Check it for continuity as well.
Hi, I’m experiencing trouble with my appliance too. I inspected the power supply, and the socket, evrything is fine, but there’s no voltage at the terminal block. According to the schematic in the pdf, I should have 120V there, right? How do I test the mainboard? Is my dishwasher totally dead? The fuse seem good, I tested it with a voltage meter. Any suggestions? 🤔
I believe my appliance has an electrical issue because it isn't starting. I’m not very experienced with repairs, but I’m willing to give it a shot. I have a multimeter and some simple equipment. Can anyone help me on where to begin? I’ve heard the control board, pump, or door switch could be the issue. Any suggestions would be helpful, can provide model number if required!
Avoid rushing into changing parts immediately. Depending on the problem, the method to diagnosing issues may vary. Sometimes, devices are recalled, and you can simply let the company handle everything.
Does your dishwasher have problems with the screen, indicators, or makes noises? Start with the fundamentals by inspecting the power supply, latch, and mainboard.
It’s important to move step by step instead of quickly replacing parts like the control board or motor. First, verify if the dishwasher is powered on. It’s as simple as that. Also, check the door switch and fuse.
If you’re a complete beginner in dishwasher repair, it might be safer to call a repair shop to prevent causing more damage, even if it costs a little extra. They can easily identify the problem and find the broken part. Then, it’s your choice whether you decide to replace it yourself. (A piece of advice: always disconnect the dishwasher prior to trying to repair it).
I think I damaged my dishwasher thermal resistance while trying to replace the water valve. Now it doesn’t warm up at all while running. Is it possible I caused more issues? Something’s not working properly.
I grabbed the Bosch SMU86M85DE38 maintenance guide guide hopefully it’ll assist me determine what went wrong. Fingers crossed...
This is my go-to checklist for diagnosing a faulty dishwasher:
Electrical Supply: Verify the dishwasher is receiving power. Check the socket and terminal block too.
Latch: Check for continuity. A faulty switch can stop the dishwasher from working.
Thermal Fuse: Inspect if it’s damaged. Replace it if needed.
Control Board: Inspect for obvious damage or loose connections.
Motor and Pump: Test for continuity and confirm they’re functioning properly.
