Hello folks,
My Bosch SMV53M90EU28 dishwasher has failed, and I’d like to fix the issue myself, so if anyone has a a repair guide or service manual for this appliance, or can help me out, I’d really be thankful. When I try to start a washing cycle, nothing happens: no lights, no water flow, and no sounds. It just failed mid-cycle yesterday. I’m looking for some support to get it working again. Please don't share the owner's manual, I already have it and it’s not helpful.
Thanks in advance for any advice!

Welcome to the Dishwasher Repair Forum! I had a comparable issue with my Bosch SMV53M90EU28 dishwasher a few months ago, and I found a detailed service guide on the internet. It includes step-by-step directions, wiring diagrams, and diagnostic hints. Here’s the URL, I found it on a blog on a subreddit :

Hi, assistance needed please I too have a Bosch SMV53M90EU28 dishwasher, and I got the repair manual mentioned above. Could someone clarify how to test the power supply and what parts to inspect first? I’m a bit overwhelmed by the electrical diagrams. Any suggestions would be appreciated!

Start by checking the basics: 1. Power Supply: Use a multimeter to test the outlet and the terminal block where the power cord connects to the dishwasher. You should see around 120V (or 240V, depending on your model). 2. Door Switch: This is a common failure point. If the door isn’t fully closed or the switch is faulty, the dishwasher won’t start. Test the switch for continuity with a multimeter. 3. Thermal Fuse: If the dishwasher overheated, the thermal fuse might be blown. Check it for continuity as well.

Hi, I’m experiencing trouble with my appliance too. I inspected the power supply, and the outlet, evrything is working, but there’s no voltage at the terminal block. According to the schematic in the manual, I should have 120V there, correct? How do I check the mainboard? Is my dishwasher completely dead? The fuses seem good, I checked it with a multimeter. Any ideas? 🤔

I believe my appliance has an electrical issue because it isn't starting. I’m not very experienced with fixing things, but I’m willing to give it a try. I have a multimeter and some simple tools. Can anyone help me on where to start? I’ve heard the mainboard, motor, or door switch could be the issue. Any suggestions would be helpful, can provide serial number if required!

Avoid rushing into replacing parts immediately. Depending on the problem, the method to diagnosing issues may differ. Sometimes, appliances are recalled, and you can simply allow the company handle the repair. Does your appliance have issues with the screen, indicators, or makes noises? Start with the fundamentals by checking the power supply, door switch, and mainboard. It’s important to move step by step instead of hastily swapping parts like the mainboard or motor. First, verify if the appliance is getting power. It’s as simple as that. Also, inspect the latch and thermal fuse. If you’re a complete beginner in dishwasher repair, it might be safer to call a service center to prevent causing more damage, even if it costs a bit more. They can quickly diagnose the issue and find the faulty part. Then, it’s up to you whether you decide to fix it yourself. (A piece of advice: always unplug the appliance prior to working on it).

I believe I damaged my dishwasher heating element while trying to swap the water valve. Now it won’t heat at all while operating. Is it likely I caused more damage? Something’s not working properly. I downloaded the Bosch SMV53M90EU28 maintenance guide guide hopefully it’ll help me figure out what went wrong. Hoping for the best...

This is my preferred checklist for diagnosing a malfunctioning dishwasher: Power Supply: Verify the dishwasher is receiving power. Test the outlet and connection point too. Latch: Test for continuity. A broken wire can prevent the dishwasher from working. Fuse: Check if it’s blown. Replace it if needed. Mainboard: Inspect for obvious damage or disconnected connections. Pump and Motor: Check for proper operation and ensure they’re working properly.
