Hello everyone,
My GE GDWT166V55SS dishwasher has broken down, and I’d like to repair the issue myself, so if anyone has a a repair guide or service manual for this appliance, or can guide me, I’d really value it. When I try to start a washing cycle, nothing happens: no lights or sounds, and no water flows. It just stopped mid-cycle yesterday. I’m looking for some help to get it working again. Please don't share the user manual, I already have it and it’s not helpful.
Thanks in advance!

Welcome to the Dishwasher Repair Forum! I have had a similar problem with my GE GDWT166V55SS dishwasher a few months ago, and I discovered a comprehensive service manual online. It includes detailed instructions, electrical schematics, and troubleshooting hints. Here’s the link, I discovered it on a blog thanks to reddit :

Hi, assistance required please I too have a GE GDWT166V55SS dishwasher, and I got the service manual mentioned above. Could someone explain how to test the power supply and what components to test first? I’m a bit overwhelmed by the electrical schematics. Any suggestions would be great!

Start by checking the basics: 1. Power Supply: Use a multimeter to test the outlet and the terminal block where the power cord connects to the dishwasher. You should see around 120V (or 240V, depending on your model). 2. Door Switch: This is a common failure point. If the door isn’t fully closed or the switch is faulty, the dishwasher won’t start. Test the switch for continuity with a multimeter. 3. Thermal Fuse: If the dishwasher overheated, the thermal fuse might be blown. Check it for continuity as well.

Hi, I’m experiencing trouble with my appliance too. I inspected the electrical supply, and the outlet, evrything is working, but there’s no voltage at the terminal block. According to the wiring diagram in the book, I expect to have some voltage there, right? How do I test the control board? Is my appliance completely dead? The fuse seem good, I tested it with a multimeter. Any ideas? 🤔

I believe my appliance has an electrical problem because it won’t start at all. I’m not very experienced with fixing things, but I’m open to give it a shot. I have a current tester and some basic tools. Can anyone guide me on how to begin? I’ve heard the mainboard, motor, or door mechanism could be the issue. Any advice would be helpful, can provide model number if required!

Avoid rushing into changing parts right away. Depending on the issue, the method to diagnosing issues may differ. Sometimes, devices are recalled for safety, and you can simply allow the company handle everything. Does your appliance have issues with the screen, indicators, or makes sounds? Start with the basics by checking the electrical connection, door switch, and control board. It’s crucial to proceed step by step instead of quickly replacing parts like the mainboard or motor. First, verify if the appliance is powered on. It’s as easy as that. Also, inspect the door switch and fuse. If you’re a total beginner in appliance repair, it might be safer to call a service center to prevent causing more issues, even if it costs a bit more. They can quickly diagnose the issue and identify the faulty part. Then, it’s your choice whether you want to replace it yourself. (A tip: always disconnect the dishwasher before trying to repair it).

Here’s my checklist for troubleshooting a faulty dishwasher: Electrical Supply: Check the dishwasher is getting power. Test the socket and terminal block too. Door Switch: Test for continuity. A faulty wire can stop the dishwasher from working. Fuse: Inspect if it’s blown. Replace it if necessary. Mainboard: Inspect for visible damage or loose connections. Motor and Motor: Test for proper operation and confirm they’re working properly. Here’s what I discovered:

For those who run dishwashers when not there or at night ours caught fire fortunately during the day while we were there. I ended up using a chemical cleaner the manufacturer recommended and just happened to see an article that talked about the different formulations of dishwasher detergent so I started trying different brands.
