Hi everyone, My GE PDT785SYN5FS dishwasher has stopped working, and I’d like to fix the problem myself, so if anyone has a a repair guide or service manual for this unit, or can point me in the right direction, I’d really value it. When I try to start a cleaning cycle, nothing happens: no lights, sounds, or water flow. It just stopped mid-cycle yesterday. I’m looking for some assistance to get it working again. Please don't share the operating manual, I already have it and it’s not helpful. Thanks in advance for your help!
Welcome to the Dishwasher Repair Forum!
I have experienced a comparable issue with my GE PDT785SYN5FS dishwasher a few months ago, and I found a comprehensive service manual online. It includes detailed instructions, electrical diagrams, and diagnostic tips. Here’s the link, I found it on a blog thanks to a subreddit :
Hi, help required please I also have a GE PDT785SYN5FS dishwasher, and I got the repair manual shared above. Could someone clarify how to check the power supply and what parts to test first? I’m a bit overwhelmed by the wiring diagrams. Any advice would be appreciated!
Start by checking the basics:
1. Power Supply: Use a multimeter to test the outlet and the terminal block where the power cord connects to the dishwasher. You should see around 120V (or 240V, depending on your model).
2. Door Switch: This is a common failure point. If the door isn’t fully closed or the switch is faulty, the dishwasher won’t start. Test the switch for continuity with a multimeter.
3. Thermal Fuse: If the dishwasher overheated, the thermal fuse might be blown. Check it for continuity as well.
Hello, I’m having trouble with my dishwasher too. I inspected the power supply, and the outlet, evrything is working, but there’s no voltage at the terminal block. According to the wiring diagram in the book, I expect to have 120V there, correct? How do I check the mainboard? Is my appliance totally faulty? The fuse seem good, I tested it with a voltage meter. Any ideas? 🤔
I think my dishwasher has an electrical issue because it isn't starting. I’m not very tech savvy with fixing things, but I’m willing to give it a shot. I have a current tester and some basic tools. Can someone guide me on where to start? I’ve heard the mainboard, pump, or door switch could be the problem. Any suggestions would be appreciated, can provide model number if required!
Don’t Rush into replacing parts right away. Depending on the issue, the method to troubleshooting malfunctions may vary. Sometimes, appliances are recalled for safety, and you can simply allow the company handle the repair.
Does your dishwasher have issues with the display, indicators, or makes noises? Start with the basics by inspecting the power supply, latch, and mainboard.
It’s crucial to move step by step instead of hastily replacing parts like the mainboard or motor. First, check if the dishwasher is powered on. It’s as easy as that. Also, check the door switch and fuse.
If you’re a total beginner in dishwasher repair, it might be safer to call a service center to avoid causing more issues, even if it costs a bit more. They can quickly identify the issue and find the broken part. Then, it’s up to you whether you decide to replace it yourself. (A tip: always disconnect the dishwasher prior to working on it).
I think I damaged my appliance thermal resistance while trying to swap the water inlet valve. Now it won’t warm up at all while running. Is it possible I caused more damage? Something’s not working properly.
I grabbed the GE PDT785SYN5FS maintenance guide guide hopefully it’ll assist me determine what went wrong. Hoping for the best...
This is my checklist for diagnosing a faulty dishwasher:
Power Supply: Check the dishwasher is receiving power. Check the outlet and terminal block too.
Latch: Check for continuity. A faulty wire can prevent the dishwasher from starting.
Fuse: Check if it’s blown. Replace it if needed.
Mainboard: Examine for visible damage or loose connections.
Motor and Pump: Check for proper operation and confirm they’re working properly.
