Hello guys,
My GE ZDT870SIF5II dishwasher has stopped working, and I’d like to diagnose the issue myself, so if anyone has a a repair guide or service manual for this unit, or can point me in the right direction, I’d really appreciate it. When I try to start a wash, nothing happens: no lights, no sounds, and no water is flowing. It just shut down mid-cycle yesterday. I’m looking for some guidance to troubleshoot it. Please don't share the owner's manual, I already have it and it’s not informative.
Thanks in advance for any assistance!

Welcome to the Dishwasher Repair Forum! I have experienced a similar issue with my GE ZDT870SIF5II dishwasher a few weeks ago, and I discovered a detailed service guide online. It includes step-by-step directions, electrical schematics, and diagnostic hints. Here’s the link, I discovered it on a blog thanks to reddit :

Hello, assistance needed please I too have a GE ZDT870SIF5II dishwasher, and I downloaded the repair guide mentioned above. Could anyone explain how to test the electrical supply and what parts to test initially? I’m a bit confused by the electrical diagrams. Any advice would be great!

Start by checking the basics: 1. Power Supply: Use a multimeter to test the outlet and the terminal block where the power cord connects to the dishwasher. You should see around 120V (or 240V, depending on your model). 2. Door Switch: This is a common failure point. If the door isn’t fully closed or the switch is faulty, the dishwasher won’t start. Test the switch for continuity with a multimeter. 3. Thermal Fuse: If the dishwasher overheated, the thermal fuse might be blown. Check it for continuity as well.

Hello, I’m having trouble with my dishwasher too. I inspected the electrical supply, and the socket, evrything is fine, but there’s no voltage at the terminal block. According to the wiring diagram in the manual, I should have some voltage there, right? How do I test the mainboard? Is my appliance completely non-functional? The fuse seem fine, I tested it with a multimeter. Any suggestions? 🤔

I believe my appliance has an electrical issue because it won’t start at all. I’m not very skilled with fixing things, but I’m open to give it a shot. I have a multimeter and some simple equipment. Can someone help me on how to begin? I’ve heard the mainboard, pump, or door mechanism could be the issue. Any suggestions would be helpful, can provide model number if required!

Don't jump into changing parts right away. Depending on the issue, the method to diagnosing issues may differ. Sometimes, appliances are recalled, and you can simply let the company handle everything. Does your dishwasher have problems with the display, lights, or makes sounds? Start with the fundamentals by inspecting the electrical connection, door switch, and mainboard. It’s important to move step by step instead of hastily replacing parts like the mainboard or motor. First, check if the dishwasher is powered on. It’s as simple as that. Also, inspect the door switch and thermal fuse. If you’re a total beginner in appliance repair, it might be better to call a repair shop to avoid causing more issues, even if it costs a little extra. They can quickly diagnose the issue and identify the broken part. Then, it’s your choice whether you decide to fix it yourself. (A tip: always disconnect the dishwasher prior to trying to repair it).

Here’s my preferred checklist for troubleshooting a faulty dishwasher: Power Supply: Verify the dishwasher is receiving power. Check the socket and connection point too. Door Switch: Test for continuity. A faulty switch can stop the dishwasher from working. Thermal Fuse: Inspect if it’s blown. Swap it if needed. Control Board: Inspect for obvious damage or loose connections. Pump and Pump: Test for continuity and ensure they’re working properly.
