Hello people,
My GE ZDT870SMF7GS dishwasher has broken down, and I’d like to repair the issue myself, so if anyone has a a repair guide or service manual for this appliance, or can guide me, I’d really be thankful. When I try to start a wash, nothing happens: no lights, no sounds, no water flow. It just died mid-cycle yesterday. I’m looking for some assistance to resolve the issue. Please don't share the operating manual, I already have it and it’s not informative.
Thanks in advance for your help!

Welcome to the Dishwasher Repair Forum! I have had a similar issue with my GE ZDT870SMF7GS dishwasher a few weeks ago, and I discovered a comprehensive service manual on the internet. It includes detailed directions, wiring schematics, and diagnostic hints. Here’s the URL, I discovered it on a blog on a subreddit :

Hello, assistance required please I also have a GE ZDT870SMF7GS dishwasher, and I downloaded the service manual shared above. Could someone explain how to check the power supply and what parts to inspect initially? I’m a bit confused by the electrical schematics. Any advice would be great!

Start by checking the basics: 1. Power Supply: Use a multimeter to test the outlet and the terminal block where the power cord connects to the dishwasher. You should see around 120V (or 240V, depending on your model). 2. Door Switch: This is a common failure point. If the door isn’t fully closed or the switch is faulty, the dishwasher won’t start. Test the switch for continuity with a multimeter. 3. Thermal Fuse: If the dishwasher overheated, the thermal fuse might be blown. Check it for continuity as well.

Hi, I’m having trouble with my dishwasher too. I inspected the power supply, and the outlet, evrything is fine, but there’s no voltage at the connection point. According to the wiring diagram in the manual, I should have 120V there, correct? How do I check the mainboard? Is my appliance totally non-functional? The fuses seem good, I tested it with a voltage meter. Any ideas? 🤔

I believe my dishwasher has an electrical problem because it isn't starting. I’m not very tech savvy with repairs, but I’m open to give it a try. I have a multimeter and some basic tools. Can anyone guide me on how to begin? I’ve heard the control board, pump, or door switch could be the issue. Any advice would be appreciated, can provide serial number if needed!

Don't jump into replacing parts right away. Depending on the issue, the method to diagnosing malfunctions may differ. Sometimes, devices are recalled for safety, and you can simply allow the manufacturer handle everything. Does your appliance have problems with the display, lights, or makes noises? Start with the basics by checking the electrical connection, latch, and control board. It’s crucial to move step by step instead of hastily replacing parts like the mainboard or pump. First, check if the dishwasher is powered on. It’s as simple as that. Also, check the latch and fuse. If you’re a total beginner in appliance repair, it might be safer to call a service center to avoid causing more issues, even if it costs a little extra. They can easily diagnose the problem and find the faulty part. Then, it’s your choice whether you decide to replace it yourself. (A piece of advice: always unplug the dishwasher before working on it).

I believe I damaged my appliance heating element while trying to replace the water valve. Now it doesn’t warm up at all while operating. Is it possible I caused more issues? Something’s not right. I grabbed the GE ZDT870SMF7GS maintenance guide guide hopefully it’ll help me figure out what went wrong. Hoping for the best...

This is my checklist for diagnosing a malfunctioning dishwasher: Power Supply: Verify the dishwasher is receiving power. Test the outlet and terminal block too. Door Switch: Test for continuity. A faulty switch can prevent the dishwasher from starting. Thermal Fuse: Check if it’s blown. Replace it if necessary. Mainboard: Examine for visible damage or disconnected connections. Motor and Motor: Check for continuity and confirm they’re working properly.
