Hi my good fellows,
My Kenmore 5871446583 dishwasher has failed, and I’d like to diagnose the issue myself, so if anyone has a a repair guide or service manual for this unit, or can help me out, I’d really be thankful. When I try to start a cycle, nothing happens: no lights, no water flow, and no sounds. It just shut down mid-cycle yesterday. I’m looking for some support to troubleshoot it. Please don't share the operating manual, I already have it and it’s not helpful.
Thanks in advance for your support!

Welcome to the Dishwasher Repair Forum! I experienced a similar problem with my Kenmore 5871446583 dishwasher a few months ago, and I discovered a detailed service guide on the internet. It includes detailed directions, electrical diagrams, and diagnostic tips. Here’s the link, I discovered it on a blog through a subreddit :

Hello, assistance required please I too have a Kenmore 5871446583 dishwasher, and I got the service manual mentioned above. Could anyone clarify how to check the power supply and what components to inspect initially? I’m a bit overwhelmed by the wiring schematics. Any suggestions would be great!

Start by checking the basics: 1. Power Supply: Use a multimeter to test the outlet and the terminal block where the power cord connects to the dishwasher. You should see around 120V (or 240V, depending on your model). 2. Door Switch: This is a common failure point. If the door isn’t fully closed or the switch is faulty, the dishwasher won’t start. Test the switch for continuity with a multimeter. 3. Thermal Fuse: If the dishwasher overheated, the thermal fuse might be blown. Check it for continuity as well.

Hi, I’m having trouble with my appliance too. I inspected the electrical supply, and the socket, evrything is fine, but there’s no power at the connection point. According to the wiring diagram in the book, I should have 120V there, correct? How do I test the mainboard? Is my dishwasher completely dead? The fuse seem fine, I tested it with a voltage meter. Any suggestions? 🤔

I think my appliance has an electrical issue because it isn't starting. I’m not very experienced with fixing things, but I’m open to give it a try. I have a multimeter and some simple equipment. Can anyone help me on how to begin? I’ve heard the mainboard, pump, or door switch could be the issue. Any advice would be appreciated, can provide model number if needed!

Avoid rushing into changing parts immediately. Depending on the issue, the approach to diagnosing issues may differ. Sometimes, devices are recalled, and you can simply allow the manufacturer handle the repair. Does your dishwasher have issues with the screen, lights, or makes noises? Start with the fundamentals by checking the power supply, latch, and control board. It’s important to move step by step instead of quickly swapping parts like the control board or pump. First, verify if the appliance is powered on. It’s as simple as that. Also, check the door switch and thermal fuse. If you’re a complete beginner in appliance repair, it might be safer to call a service center to avoid causing more damage, even if it costs a bit more. They can quickly identify the problem and find the faulty part. Then, it’s your choice whether you decide to fix it yourself. (A tip: always unplug the appliance before working on it).

This is my preferred checklist for diagnosing a malfunctioning dishwasher: Electrical Supply: Verify the dishwasher is getting power. Check the socket and connection point as well. Door Switch: Check for continuity. A faulty wire can stop the dishwasher from working. Fuse: Inspect if it’s blown. Swap it if needed. Mainboard: Examine for obvious damage or loose connections. Motor and Pump: Check for continuity and ensure they’re working properly.
