Hi all,
My Kenmore 58716239900A dishwasher has broken down, and I’d like to repair the issue myself, so if anyone has a a repair guide or service manual for this appliance, or can help me out, I’d really value it. When I try to start a washing cycle, nothing happens: no lights, no sounds, no water flow. It just died mid-cycle yesterday. I’m looking for some advice to get it working again. Please don't share the owner's manual, I already have it and it’s not informative.
Thanks in advance!

Welcome to the Dishwasher Repair Forum! I experienced a comparable problem with my Kenmore 58716239900A dishwasher a few months ago, and I discovered a detailed service guide on the internet. It features detailed instructions, electrical schematics, and diagnostic tips. Here’s the link, I discovered it on a blog on reddit :

Hi, help needed please I also have a Kenmore 58716239900A dishwasher, and I got the repair guide mentioned above. Could someone explain how to test the electrical supply and what parts to inspect first? I’m a bit overwhelmed by the wiring schematics. Any advice would be appreciated!

Start by checking the basics: 1. Power Supply: Use a multimeter to test the outlet and the terminal block where the power cord connects to the dishwasher. You should see around 120V (or 240V, depending on your model). 2. Door Switch: This is a common failure point. If the door isn’t fully closed or the switch is faulty, the dishwasher won’t start. Test the switch for continuity with a multimeter. 3. Thermal Fuse: If the dishwasher overheated, the thermal fuse might be blown. Check it for continuity as well.

Hi, I’m having trouble with my appliance too. I inspected the electrical supply, and the outlet, evrything is working, but there’s no voltage at the connection point. According to the wiring diagram in the pdf, I should have some voltage there, right? How do I test the control board? Is my dishwasher completely non-functional? The fuses seem good, I checked it with a multimeter. Any suggestions? 🤔

I believe my dishwasher has an electrical issue because it won’t start at all. I’m not very tech savvy with repairs, but I’m willing to give it a try. I have a multimeter and some simple tools. Can anyone help me on how to begin? I’ve heard the mainboard, motor, or door switch could be the problem. Any advice would be appreciated, can provide serial number if needed!

Avoid rushing into changing parts immediately. Depending on the problem, the approach to troubleshooting malfunctions may vary. Sometimes, devices are recalled for safety, and you can simply allow the company handle everything. Does your appliance have issues with the display, lights, or makes noises? Start with the fundamentals by checking the power supply, latch, and control board. It’s crucial to proceed step by step instead of quickly replacing parts like the control board or pump. First, check if the dishwasher is getting power. It’s as simple as that. Also, inspect the latch and fuse. If you’re a total beginner in dishwasher repair, it might be better to call a repair shop to avoid causing more issues, even if it costs a bit more. They can easily diagnose the problem and find the broken part. Then, it’s up to you whether you want to fix it yourself. (A tip: always unplug the dishwasher before trying to repair it).

I think I damaged my dishwasher heating element while trying to swap the water valve. Now it doesn’t heat at all while operating. Is it possible I caused more damage? Something’s not working properly. I grabbed the Kenmore 58716239900A maintenance guide guide hopefully it’ll help me figure out what went wrong. Fingers crossed...

This is my preferred checklist for troubleshooting a malfunctioning dishwasher: Power Supply: Check the dishwasher is getting power. Test the outlet and connection point as well. Door Switch: Check for continuity. A broken switch can stop the dishwasher from starting. Thermal Fuse: Check if it’s damaged. Swap it if needed. Control Board: Examine for obvious damage or disconnected connections. Pump and Motor: Check for proper operation and ensure they’re working properly. Here’s what I found:

Another consideration is size. The little clips that are supposed to hold the dishwasher up straight in your cabinet are not very big. Like any frequently used appliance however they may occasionally require maintenance or repairs particularly with parts like the door which is critical for the safe and effective operation of the unit. If handled correctly porcelain will be lightweight in the finished product making it ideal for items like teacups small vases and decorative plates. It s worth noting however that you don t need to rinse your plates completely this not only wastes water but can actually negatively impact your dishwasher s cleaning performance. If the water going into your dishwasher is less than 120 degrees and there s a problem with the heating element the water won t get hot enough and cause it to run too long. We mentioned this at the beginning but it s worth going over in more detail. Understanding the pros and cons of these appliances will allow you to know if the added features are right for you. Still not knowing how to use the dishwasher tablets properly tops the list. Load forks and spoons handle side down but load knives blade side down. The only problem is that these dishwashers are still a relatively niche technology so they can be very expensive to purchase. If you have a manual dishwasher one that is not self cleaning you can easily remove the filter to clean it. It runs for a long while but the dishes do get clean without pre rinsing. Additionally a defective electronic control board may send electrical current to the heating element at inappropriate times resulting in a burning smell from inside the dishwasher tub. Despite being engineered to endure the entirety of your dishwasher s lifespan the electronic circuit board can sustain damage and begin experiencing short circuits.
