Hi my good fellows,
My Kenmore 5871744583 dishwasher has ceased functioning, and I’d like to address the issue myself, so if anyone has a a repair guide or service manual for this unit, or can provide some advice, I’d really be thankful. When I try to start a cleaning cycle, nothing happens: no lights, sounds, or water flow. It just shut down mid-cycle yesterday. I’m looking for some assistance to get it working again. Please don't share the owner's manual, I already have it and it’s not useful.
Thanks in advance for your help!

Welcome to the Dishwasher Repair Forum! I have experienced a similar issue with my Kenmore 5871744583 dishwasher a few weeks ago, and I discovered a comprehensive service manual online. It features detailed directions, electrical diagrams, and troubleshooting hints. Here’s the URL, I discovered it on a blog through a subreddit :

Hello, assistance required please I also have a Kenmore 5871744583 dishwasher, and I got the repair manual mentioned above. Could someone explain how to check the power supply and what parts to test initially? I’m a bit confused by the electrical diagrams. Any advice would be appreciated!

Start by checking the basics: 1. Power Supply: Use a multimeter to test the outlet and the terminal block where the power cord connects to the dishwasher. You should see around 120V (or 240V, depending on your model). 2. Door Switch: This is a common failure point. If the door isn’t fully closed or the switch is faulty, the dishwasher won’t start. Test the switch for continuity with a multimeter. 3. Thermal Fuse: If the dishwasher overheated, the thermal fuse might be blown. Check it for continuity as well.

Hi, I’m having trouble with my dishwasher too. I inspected the power supply, and the outlet, evrything is fine, but there’s no power at the terminal block. According to the schematic in the pdf, I expect to have 120V there, correct? How do I test the control board? Is my appliance completely dead? The fuses seem good, I checked it with a voltage meter. Any ideas? 🤔

I believe my appliance has an electrical issue because it won’t start at all. I’m not very experienced with fixing things, but I’m willing to give it a shot. I have a multimeter and some simple tools. Can someone guide me on where to begin? I’ve heard the mainboard, motor, or door mechanism could be the issue. Any advice would be appreciated, can provide serial number if required!

Avoid jumping into replacing parts right away. Depending on the issue, the approach to diagnosing issues may differ. Sometimes, appliances are recalled for safety, and you can simply let the company handle the repair. Does your appliance have problems with the display, indicators, or makes noises? Start with the basics by checking the electrical connection, door switch, and control board. It’s important to move step by step instead of quickly replacing parts like the control board or motor. First, verify if the dishwasher is powered on. It’s as easy as that. Also, inspect the latch and thermal fuse. If you’re a total beginner in appliance repair, it might be better to call a repair shop to avoid causing more damage, even if it costs a little extra. They can easily identify the problem and find the broken part. Then, it’s up to you whether you decide to fix it yourself. (A tip: always disconnect the dishwasher prior to working on it).

I believe I damaged my appliance thermal resistance while trying to swap the water inlet valve. Now it doesn’t heat at all while operating. Is it likely I caused more damage? Something’s not working properly. I grabbed the Kenmore 5871744583 maintenance guide guide hopefully it’ll help me determine what went wrong. Fingers crossed...

This is my preferred checklist for diagnosing a faulty dishwasher: Power Supply: Verify the dishwasher is receiving power. Check the outlet and terminal block as well. Door Switch: Test for continuity. A broken wire can stop the dishwasher from starting. Thermal Fuse: Check if it’s blown. Swap it if necessary. Control Board: Inspect for visible damage or disconnected connections. Motor and Pump: Check for proper operation and confirm they’re working properly.
