Hi guys,
My Kitchenaid 5KSM160PSAIC0 dishwasher has quit working, and I’d like to fix the problem myself, so if anyone has a a repair guide or service manual for this machine, or can point me in the right direction, I’d really appreciate it. When I try to start a wash, nothing happens: no lights or sounds, and no water flows. It just quit mid-cycle yesterday. I’m looking for some advice to resolve the issue. Please don't share the user manual, I already have it and it’s not useful.
Thanks in advance for any advice!

Welcome to the Dishwasher Repair Forum! I had a comparable issue with my Kitchenaid 5KSM160PSAIC0 dishwasher a few months ago, and I found a comprehensive service manual on the internet. It features step-by-step directions, electrical schematics, and troubleshooting tips. Here’s the link, I found it on a blog on a subreddit :

Hi, help needed please I also have a Kitchenaid 5KSM160PSAIC0 dishwasher, and I got the service guide mentioned above. Could anyone clarify how to test the power supply and what components to inspect first? I’m a bit confused by the electrical diagrams. Any advice would be great!

Start by checking the basics: 1. Power Supply: Use a multimeter to test the outlet and the terminal block where the power cord connects to the dishwasher. You should see around 120V (or 240V, depending on your model). 2. Door Switch: This is a common failure point. If the door isn’t fully closed or the switch is faulty, the dishwasher won’t start. Test the switch for continuity with a multimeter. 3. Thermal Fuse: If the dishwasher overheated, the thermal fuse might be blown. Check it for continuity as well.

Hi, I’m experiencing trouble with my appliance too. I inspected the electrical supply, and the outlet, evrything is working, but there’s no power at the connection point. According to the wiring diagram in the manual, I expect to have 120V there, correct? How do I check the control board? Is my appliance totally faulty? The fuse seem good, I tested it with a voltage meter. Any suggestions? 🤔

I believe my dishwasher has an electrical problem because it isn't starting. I’m not very skilled with fixing things, but I’m willing to give it a shot. I have a multimeter and some basic equipment. Can someone guide me on where to start? I’ve heard the mainboard, motor, or door switch could be the problem. Any suggestions would be appreciated, can provide model number if required!

Avoid jumping into changing parts immediately. Depending on the problem, the method to troubleshooting issues may differ. Sometimes, devices are recalled, and you can simply let the company handle the repair. Does your appliance have issues with the screen, indicators, or makes noises? Start with the fundamentals by checking the power supply, latch, and mainboard. It’s important to move step by step instead of quickly swapping parts like the mainboard or pump. First, verify if the appliance is getting power. It’s as easy as that. Also, inspect the door switch and fuse. If you’re a total beginner in dishwasher repair, it might be better to call a repair shop to avoid causing more issues, even if it costs a bit more. They can quickly identify the issue and find the faulty part. Then, it’s your choice whether you want to replace it yourself. (A piece of advice: always unplug the dishwasher before trying to repair it).

This is my checklist for diagnosing a faulty dishwasher: Electrical Supply: Verify the dishwasher is getting power. Check the socket and terminal block as well. Latch: Check for continuity. A faulty wire can stop the dishwasher from starting. Thermal Fuse: Check if it’s blown. Replace it if necessary. Control Board: Inspect for visible damage or loose connections. Motor and Motor: Test for proper operation and confirm they’re working properly.
