Hello everyone, My Maytag MDB5601AWW42 dishwasher has broken down, and I’d like to repair the problem myself, so if anyone has a a repair guide or service manual for this appliance, or can help me out, I’d really thank you. When I try to start a washing cycle, nothing happens: no lights, no sounds, and no water is flowing. It just shut down mid-cycle yesterday. I’m looking for some guidance to fix it. Please don't share the operating manual, I already have it and it’s not informative. Thanks in advance for your support!

I have experienced a similar problem with my Maytag MDB5601AWW42 dishwasher a few weeks ago, and I found a detailed service guide online. It features detailed directions, wiring schematics, and diagnostic hints. Here’s the URL, I found it on a blog on a subreddit :
Hi, assistance required please I too have a Maytag MDB5601AWW42 dishwasher, and I downloaded the service manual mentioned above. Could anyone explain how to test the power supply and what components to test initially? I’m a bit confused by the electrical diagrams. Any advice would be great!
Start by checking the basics:
1. Power Supply: Use a multimeter to test the outlet and the terminal block where the power cord connects to the dishwasher. You should see around 120V (or 240V, depending on your model).
2. Door Switch: This is a common failure point. If the door isn’t fully closed or the switch is faulty, the dishwasher won’t start. Test the switch for continuity with a multimeter.
3. Thermal Fuse: If the dishwasher overheated, the thermal fuse might be blown. Check it for continuity as well.
Hi, I’m experiencing trouble with my appliance too. I inspected the power supply, and the outlet, evrything is working, but there’s no voltage at the connection point. According to the wiring diagram in the manual, I expect to have 120V there, right? How do I check the mainboard? Is my dishwasher completely dead? The fuse seem good, I tested it with a multimeter. Any suggestions? 🤔
I think my appliance has an electrical problem because it won’t start at all. I’m not very tech savvy with fixing things, but I’m open to give it a try. I have a multimeter and some simple tools. Can anyone guide me on where to begin? I’ve heard the mainboard, pump, or door mechanism could be the problem. Any suggestions would be helpful, can provide model number if required!
Avoid jumping into replacing parts right away. Depending on the issue, the method to diagnosing issues may vary. Sometimes, appliances are recalled, and you can simply let the manufacturer handle the repair.
Does your dishwasher have issues with the screen, indicators, or makes noises? Start with the fundamentals by checking the power supply, door switch, and control board.
It’s important to move step by step instead of hastily replacing parts like the mainboard or motor. First, verify if the dishwasher is powered on. It’s as easy as that. Also, check the latch and thermal fuse.
If you’re a complete beginner in appliance repair, it might be safer to call a repair shop to prevent causing more damage, even if it costs a bit more. They can easily diagnose the issue and find the faulty part. Then, it’s up to you whether you decide to replace it yourself. (A tip: always unplug the appliance prior to working on it).
I think I damaged my dishwasher heating element while trying to replace the water inlet valve. Now it doesn’t heat at all while running. Is it possible I caused more issues? Something’s not working properly.
I downloaded the Maytag MDB5601AWW42 maintenance guide guide hopefully it’ll help me determine what went wrong. Fingers crossed...
Here’s my preferred checklist for diagnosing a malfunctioning dishwasher:
Electrical Supply: Check the dishwasher is getting power. Check the outlet and terminal block too.
Door Switch: Test for continuity. A faulty wire can stop the dishwasher from working.
Thermal Fuse: Check if it’s blown. Swap it if necessary.
Mainboard: Examine for visible damage or disconnected connections.
Pump and Pump: Check for continuity and confirm they’re working properly.
