Hi friends,
My Maytag MDBH985AWS41 dishwasher has quit working, and I’d like to troubleshoot the problem myself, so if anyone has a a repair guide or service manual for this machine, or can offer suggestions, I’d really be thankful. When I try to start a cycle, nothing happens: no lights, sounds, or water flow. It just stopped mid-cycle yesterday. I’m looking for some advice to repair it. Please don't share the operating manual, I already have it and it’s not useful.
Thanks in advance!

Welcome to the Dishwasher Repair Forum! I have experienced a comparable issue with my Maytag MDBH985AWS41 dishwasher a few months ago, and I discovered a comprehensive service guide online. It features step-by-step instructions, wiring schematics, and diagnostic tips. Here’s the URL, I found it on a blog through reddit :

Hi, assistance needed please I also have a Maytag MDBH985AWS41 dishwasher, and I downloaded the repair guide shared above. Could someone explain how to test the electrical supply and what parts to test initially? I’m a bit confused by the wiring schematics. Any advice would be appreciated!

Start by checking the basics: 1. Power Supply: Use a multimeter to test the outlet and the terminal block where the power cord connects to the dishwasher. You should see around 120V (or 240V, depending on your model). 2. Door Switch: This is a common failure point. If the door isn’t fully closed or the switch is faulty, the dishwasher won’t start. Test the switch for continuity with a multimeter. 3. Thermal Fuse: If the dishwasher overheated, the thermal fuse might be blown. Check it for continuity as well.

Hi, I’m having trouble with my appliance too. I checked the power supply, and the outlet, evrything is working, but there’s no voltage at the connection point. According to the wiring diagram in the manual, I should have 120V there, correct? How do I check the control board? Is my appliance totally non-functional? The fuse seem fine, I checked it with a multimeter. Any ideas? 🤔

I believe my dishwasher has an electrical issue because it isn't starting. I’m not very skilled with fixing things, but I’m willing to give it a shot. I have a current tester and some simple tools. Can anyone help me on how to start? I’ve heard the control board, motor, or door switch could be the issue. Any advice would be helpful, can provide serial number if required!

Don't jump into changing parts immediately. Depending on the problem, the approach to diagnosing malfunctions may differ. Sometimes, devices are recalled, and you can simply allow the company handle the repair. Does your appliance have problems with the screen, indicators, or makes sounds? Start with the fundamentals by checking the electrical connection, latch, and mainboard. It’s crucial to proceed step by step instead of quickly swapping parts like the mainboard or pump. First, verify if the appliance is getting power. It’s as simple as that. Also, check the latch and fuse. If you’re a complete beginner in appliance repair, it might be better to call a repair shop to avoid causing more issues, even if it costs a little extra. They can easily identify the issue and identify the broken part. Then, it’s your choice whether you want to replace it yourself. (A piece of advice: always disconnect the dishwasher before working on it).

This is my go-to checklist for troubleshooting a malfunctioning dishwasher: Power Supply: Check the dishwasher is receiving power. Test the socket and terminal block too. Latch: Test for continuity. A faulty switch can stop the dishwasher from starting. Fuse: Check if it’s blown. Swap it if needed. Mainboard: Examine for obvious damage or disconnected connections. Pump and Pump: Test for continuity and ensure they’re functioning properly.
