Hi my good fellows,
My Whirlpool SAU500A1 dishwasher has stopped working, and I’d like to fix the issue myself, so if anyone has a a repair guide or service manual for this model, or can help me out, I’d really be grateful. When I try to start a wash, nothing happens: no lights, no sounds, no water flow. It just failed mid-cycle yesterday. I’m looking for some help to get it working again. Please don't share the owner's manual, I already have it and it’s not informative.
Thanks in advance for your support!

Welcome to the Dishwasher Repair Forum! I had a similar problem with my Whirlpool SAU500A1 dishwasher a few weeks ago, and I discovered a detailed service manual online. It includes step-by-step instructions, electrical schematics, and diagnostic tips. Here’s the URL, I discovered it on a blog on a subreddit :

Hello, help required please I too have a Whirlpool SAU500A1 dishwasher, and I downloaded the repair guide shared above. Could someone clarify how to check the electrical supply and what components to test initially? I’m a bit confused by the wiring schematics. Any advice would be great!

Start by checking the basics: 1. Power Supply: Use a multimeter to test the outlet and the terminal block where the power cord connects to the dishwasher. You should see around 120V (or 240V, depending on your model). 2. Door Switch: This is a common failure point. If the door isn’t fully closed or the switch is faulty, the dishwasher won’t start. Test the switch for continuity with a multimeter. 3. Thermal Fuse: If the dishwasher overheated, the thermal fuse might be blown. Check it for continuity as well.

Hello, I’m experiencing trouble with my appliance too. I checked the electrical supply, and the socket, evrything is working, but there’s no voltage at the terminal block. According to the schematic in the guide, I expect to have some voltage there, correct? How do I test the control board? Is my dishwasher totally dead? The fuse seem fine, I tested it with a multimeter. Any ideas? 🤔

I believe my appliance has an electrical problem because it won’t start at all. I’m not very tech savvy with repairs, but I’m willing to give it a try. I have a multimeter and some simple equipment. Can anyone help me on where to start? I’ve heard the mainboard, pump, or door mechanism could be the problem. Any advice would be helpful, can provide serial number if required!

Avoid rushing into changing parts immediately. Depending on the issue, the method to diagnosing malfunctions may differ. Sometimes, devices are recalled, and you can simply allow the company handle everything. Does your appliance have problems with the display, lights, or makes sounds? Start with the fundamentals by checking the power supply, door switch, and control board. It’s important to move step by step instead of quickly swapping parts like the mainboard or motor. First, check if the appliance is getting power. It’s as simple as that. Also, check the latch and thermal fuse. If you’re a complete beginner in dishwasher repair, it might be better to call a repair shop to avoid causing more damage, even if it costs a bit more. They can quickly identify the problem and find the broken part. Then, it’s your choice whether you decide to fix it yourself. (A piece of advice: always disconnect the appliance before working on it).

I think I damaged my appliance heating element while trying to swap the water inlet valve. Now it doesn’t heat at all while operating. Is it likely I caused more damage? Something’s not right. I grabbed the Whirlpool SAU500A1 maintenance guide guide hopefully it’ll help me determine what went wrong. Hoping for the best...

Here’s my preferred checklist for troubleshooting a malfunctioning dishwasher: Electrical Supply: Verify the dishwasher is getting power. Test the outlet and connection point as well. Latch: Check for continuity. A faulty switch can prevent the dishwasher from starting. Fuse: Inspect if it’s damaged. Replace it if needed. Control Board: Inspect for obvious damage or loose connections. Motor and Pump: Check for proper operation and confirm they’re working properly. Here’s what I found:

According to experts you will not be bothered by a dishwasher that operates at 44 decibels or less as the sound level of a standard dishwasher is 45 60 decibels and dishwashers that are even quieter have a range of 38 dB. After doing a bit of research some people say that Bosch dishwashers without heated drying actually dry better than other brands that do have heated drying.
